James Wilson (1742-1798) Politician and jurist. Wilson was a delegate to the Continental Congress, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He helped draft the U.S. Constitution and the Pennsylvania state constitution and delivered lectures that became landmarks in American jurisprudence. He served on the U.S. Supreme Court (1789-1798). 8" x 6" partially printed legal document, signed on the reverse "Wilson," Cumberland County, January 26, 1776. The document directs the payment for damages. Wilson has detailed the fees under the heading "...April Term 1776...." Age toned; broken in folds. Unfortunately an authenticator has found it necessary to affix its seal on the front at the lower left.
