Robert Morris (1734-1806) British-born American financier and politician. As a member of the Continental Congress in the American Revolution, Morris practically controlled the financial operations of the war from 1776 to 1778, borrowing money from the French, requisitioning from the states, and even advancing money from his own pocket. He established the Bank of North America (1781). 4" x 7" autograph letter signed, November 19, 1797, to John Nicholson. "...Enclosed herewith a letter from Charles Young...written in terms that I have not merited because you know I wanted to give him the interview he desired...I have written to him as you will see by the copy of my note sent herewith..." Mounting strip on the left side.
