Richard Dobbs Spraight (1758-1802) Politician. Spaight was a delegate to the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the U.S. Constitution, in 1787, and he signed the document when he was only twenty nine years old. In 1792, Spraight was elected Governor of North Carolina and re-elected by the General Assembly for two further one-year terms. During Spaight's term as Governor, sites were chosen for the new state capital of Raleigh and the newly-chartered University of North Carolina. 16" x 13" partially printed document signed, State of North Carolina, May 30, 1795. The document is a land grant. Broken in folds; one break goes through Spraights signature.
