1782 Revolutionary War Era Newspaper. 10" x 16", four pages, The Independent Gazetteer or the Chronicle of Freedom, Philadelphia, September 28, 1782. The newspaper contains a page of letters from readers signed with names like: "Cicero," "A Friend to Innocence," "Philanthropos" and "A Fox to Hyprocrisy and Selfishness." The printer adds a note: "As the Printer is frequently subjected to many Inconveniences from an Ignorance of some authors who send Pieces under fictitious Signatures, for Publication; none will, therefore, in future, be published without a Knowledge of the Author's real Signature..." The paper includes news from London and local advertising, including slave sales. Age toned; margins clipped and paper loss in the center fold.
