Pay Order for Continential Army Soldier. 7" x 6" pay order, Hartford, October 13, 1780, directing payment to Nathan Roberts signed by Nathan Dickinson. Included is the 7" x 12" request for payment for Roberts, July 20, 1780. The three selectmen certify that "...Nathan Roberts...a soldier in the Continental Army in the Connecticut Line before First day of Jany. Last day in the First Brigade and Second Company in the Third Battalion...Installed into the Continental Service in May 1777...." Beneath their statement is a request signed by Roberts for the "...Balance Due me for serving in the Continental Army Connecticut Line three years from May 1777 to may 1780...." Both documents are age toned with very minor spotting.
