Description
Christopher "Kit" Carson (1809-1868) Frontiersman, scout, and Indian agent. In the early 1840s Carson served as a guide to John C. Frémont's explorations of the West. He guided General Stephen Kearny's expedition to California during the Mexican War. In 1854 Carson was appointed Indian agent at Taos, New Mexico. During the American Civil War Carson commanded the 1st New Mexico Volunteers. 2" x 1" signature as "C. Carson." Beneath the signature, Carson is identified as "Colonel, 1st, N.M. Volunteers." Matted with an oval portrait and brass plaque and framed to 22" x 16".
