Unusual wide cylindrical vessel with slightly flared mouth and foot as well as lens cut and edge grinding décor with four frames with grapes-bearing putti

This vessel used to be filled with water and put at the table to wash the grapes. It is made of clear glass and provided with lens cut and edge grinding décor. Four frames include putti with grapes and flowers. The designs were presumably created, due to the characteristic contrast between colorful grapes and flowers and the pale, white figures, by Michael Powolny, Berthold Löffler, or their circle. The fine enamel painting is framed by ornamentation with black stain and gold. The vessel presumably comes from the estate of the Swedish king Gustav VI. Adolf.

The grapes washer is 15 cm high and has a diameter of 15 cm. It is in good condition with few signs of age and wear, the décor is partially slightly worn.

Glasfachschule Steinschönau

Bohemia belongs to a region with a long tradition in the art of glass making. By 1800 there were already 66 glass workshops existing. As a center for production with own workshops and manufactories soon became the places Haida, Jablonec, Bohemian-Kamnitz and Steinschönau. The glass-workshop Steinschönau exists since 1855/56, in 1926 it was merged with the workshop in Haida. (afa / cru)
