Halabala's furniture designs fetch up to 8,000 Euro in international auctions
The four chairs, model H214 an d the side table, model H259, were designed in the 1930s and produced in what was the largest furniture factory in Czechoslovakia at the time, Spojene UP ZĂ¡vody. They were created by Czech chief designer Jindrich Halabala. The chairs are characterized by their particularly beautiful dark stained walnut veneer. This and the elegantly curved legs show Halabala's Art Deco background. Although he represents a straighter and more functional version of this period.
The chairs are each 83 cm tall, 46 cm wide and 50 cm deep. They are in good original condition with signs of age and wear.
Jindrich Halabala (1903-1978)
Czech architect and designer Jindrich Halabala was a trained carpenter. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague from 1922 to 1926. Between 1930 and 1946, he was chief designer at furniture manufacturer Spojene UP ZĂ¡vody in Brno, the largest furniture manufacturer in Europe at the time.
