Basil Rathbone (1892-1967) South African born actor. Rathbone became famous for playing suave villains in many swashbucklers of the 1930s. Rathbone is most widely recognized for his starring roles in fourteen Sherlock Holmes movies. He also starred as Holmes with Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson in an old-time radio mystery series, The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and did numerous other radio broadcasts. 5" x 3" slip signed "Sincerely, Basil Rathbone." The sheet is mounted and framed with an original 10" x 12" grease pencil sketch of Rathbone by Haessler dated "1955," to an overall size of 16" x 20". There is some surface soiling to the signature.
