Popular representation of the Prussian king Frederick the Great, also known as The Old Fritz
The figure of the Prussian King Frederick II has been ever since quite popular and widespread in sculpture, especially in bronze. With his representative uniform and his walking stick, the ‘Old Fritz’ walks down the steps of the marble base, accompanied by his two faithful greyhounds. The bronze impresses particularly by its vivid and close-to-life accomplishment, which enhances the work with a great expressive power.
The bronze sculpture is overall in good condition, showing minor wear marks. The patina is slightly rubbed off in part. The corners of the marble base are slightly chipped. There is a fine hairline crack on the upper step. Otherwise good impression. The bronze is 23.5 x 16 x 12 cm in size. (cko)
