This clock with its perpetual calendar was part of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Bamberg on the occasion of the visit of King Ludwig and Queen Therese von Bayern in Bamberg from 24 to 26 June 1830

The present pendulum clock with its perpetual Calendar Mechanics is the masterpiece of the German clock maker Georg Schmitt and dates from 1822. The fact that Schmitt integrated his masterpiece into a highly modern French casing, was not unusual and progressive for his time. In King Ludwig's memorandum on the festival celebration in Bamberg in 1830, the clock is mentioned as follows: ‘13) Eine Kristall=Uhr, geht ein Monat ohne aufzuziehen, und hat einen regulirten Datum, Meisterstück von Georg Schmitt, Uhrmachermeister dahier’ [A crystal=clock that runs a month and has an regulated date, masterpiece of Georg Schmitt, local master clock maker]. Besides the waffle cut Baccarat crystal casing, the masterpiece impresses by its perpetual calendar and the finely executed bronze doré bezel with flowers.

The pendulum clock is in good working condition, no guarantee on regularity and long-term functionality. Two rear crystal columns show losses to the upper area. The small leather insert of the hammer is missing. There are also some minor repair marks and additions. The overall dimensions are 53.5 x 27 x 15 cm.
