Museum piece with finest figural painting!

This highly decorative potpourri crown vase was manufactured between 1888 and 1901 in the Saxon porcelain factory of Potschappel. The vase dates shortly after the founding years of the manufactory and is listed in the old model books as the number 164. The vase immediately strikes by the very fine painting with antique-like figural scenes. Women and putti are presented in a gentle landscape. At the end of the 19th century, classicizing scenes on plates and vases were very popular and executed by the Potschappel porcelain painters with much skill. In addition to the paintings, the openwork décor on the neck and the cover is especially beautiful.

The vase is marked with the underglaze blue mark depicting two crossed beams and a ‘T’ to the underside. It is in very good condition, showing minor wear. The total height is 31.5 cm.

Sächsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu Potschappel

The manufactory nearby Dresden was established in 1872 by Carl Thieme. The artists and workers in the manufactory create the porcelain by hand in the finest, most luxurious way possible referring to old designs. Also, the multitude of the designs speaks for the rich artistic tradition of the manufactory. In 1900, the manufactory took part in the Exposition Universelle (the world fair) in Paris. The manufactory is also well-known of its running glazes as well as its crystal glazes. Today, Dresden porcelains are on display in museums and part of many private collections. As well, they are popular collectibles at international auctions.
