The well-known British purveyor Elkington & Co. manufactured, among other things, the cutlery for the luxury dining rooms on board the Titanic. The present set is one of Elington’s first-class and massive sterling tea sets
This three-piece sterling silver tea set was manufactured ??in 1918 by Elkington & Co. in Sheffield. The set, consisting of teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug, stands out for its high quality workmanship, which is emphasized by the gilt interior of the pieces. Particularly appealing to these pieces are the curved pierced edges with chiseled festoons decoration and ornate claw feet.
The pieces are each marked with the maker's mark of Elkington & Co., the city mark of Sheffield, the sterling silver standard mark and the date letter ‘a’ (1918) on the wall. They are marked with the model number ‘RD 490406’ to the underside. The overall height is 17 cm (teapot), 9.5 cm (sugar bowl) and 10 cm (milk jug). The overall weight of all pieces is about 1173 grams. The pieces are in good condition, showing light wear. The gilding of the teapot is lost in major part.
