Description
1815 document from Hardin County [Elizabethtown] Kentucky, dated 1815, summons for Jacob Larue to appear before the Judges of Hardin Circuit court to answer Nancy Murphy & Isaac Holack Executives of the Last Will & Testament of James Murphy [deceased] in a plea of debt ($89). This document was written and signed by Ben Helm. Also signed on the verso by Robert H. McLure. Approx. 8 x 6-1/2".JACOB LARUE [1744-1821] Pioneer. It is believed that he made several trips to Kentucky prior to motving there in 1798. As early as 1783, some 18,000 acres were entered in his name. He lived the life of a quiet and respected planter. He held for some years the position of Justice of the Peace for Hardin County. LARUE FAMILY - much Kentucky land was entered for Isaac LaRue Sr. by Squire Boone, brother of the famed Daniel Boone. The association of the Boones & LaRues goes back to earlier days when the LaRue and Boone families were neighbors in Bucks County, Penn.BEN HELM (b. Fairfax county, Va., May 8, 1767; son of Capt. Thomas Helm, apioneer settler of Kentucky, who moved from Virginia to the Falls of Ohio, in the fall of 1779. In 1801-03 Ben Helm erected the first brick house built there. He became a surveyor; was state senator, 1796-1800; clerk of the Hardin county courts, 1800-17; an officer with the rank of major in the war of 1812; filled various other offices of honor and trust in Kentucky: purchased the farm owned by Christopher Bush, father of Mrs. Sarah (Bush) Johnston Lincoln, step-mother of Abraham Lincoln, and was a partner in a general store with Duff Green [later, American statesman], conducting the business as Green & Helm. He died in Elizabethtown, 1858, nearly 91 years old.
