Mary Jenks ( is primarily known as Mary Jenks Coulter) American artist. Born in Newport, KY on Aug. 30, 1880. She died in Amherst, Massachusetts 1966. Also known as Mary Jencques she was a pupil of Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. After her marriage to Fred Coulter in 1902, she moved to Chicago where she studied a variety of crafts (weaving, bookbinding, jewelry, pottery) at the AIC [Art Institute of Chicago] and was the first curator of etchings and engravings at that school. Upon returning from a tour of Europe, she earned a philosophy degree from the University of Chicago. In 1915 her husband died and she moved to California.
