Description
French, 19th century. Matched pair of French gilt bronze & marble 7 Light candelabras, after Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751-1843), the 6 deeply scrolled candlearms issued from griffin monopodias headed with a single candlecup, the urn mounted with 2 winged caryatids, the body of urn with grotesque masks and heraldic shields on a turned socle base mounted on a stepped marble plinth with berried laurel ormolu banding and four block feet. Candelabras have custom gilt rimmed glass bobeches, bronze fitter and wax candles. Height 30", width 14". Provenance: Former catcher with the Chicago Cubs and one of Nashville's most prolific restaurateurs.
