Likely English,19th century. Oval mourning necklace pendant with miniature portrait with hand painted bust length portrayal of a young man with short blonde hair in a high white collared shirt with black jacket. Verso with large lock of blonde hair (presumably of the male sitter) accented with gold thread and seed pearls as well as embroidered monogrammed accent on metallic cobalt blue threaded ground and small seed pearl border on mother of pearl or abalone back. Overall approximate size 3.25" x 2.3".

Opalescent glass on back with U shaped thin crack at top and crack lower right, not particularly distracting. Painting not examined out of frame (as we do not want to jeopardize the integrity of the work)--painting appears to be in good condition overall with slightly lighter speckles on figure's jacket, possibly retouches or dust residue. Slight dings to case and separation at top. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
