Rare large symphonion from the Leipzig Musik Werke Gebr. Lochmann with beautiful floral marquetry and printed graphic work in the lid; a classic collector's item for enthusiasts of traditional technology
This rare Symphonion comes from the musical instrument manufactory of the Brothers Lochmann, whose founder Paul Lochmann invented the perforated plates in 1886. To "preserve" music in a technical way and to be able to recall it at any time as well has been a dream for music lovers for centuries. Such a Symphonion disk music box was a milestone. This music box with 15 disks is a classic collector's item for enthusiasts of traditional technique and ready to use. In the year 1906 it had a price of 144 marks. Especially nice is the marquetry cover with colorful flower bouquets as well as the print inside the lid with the representation of music making children. The 15 plates include songs such as ‘Glühwürmchen Idylle’, ‘Rumänisches Lied’ and ‘schwarze Augen’ among others.
The symphonion is in an age-appropriate good condition. All tongues are present, ready to play with a very nice sound. The 15 plates show typical age-related signs of use. The dimensions are 53 x 45 x 25 cm.
