Decorative Art Deco sculpture as a lamp with the representation of a semi-nude in a draped dress in antique style
This decorative table lamp appears in the figure of a female nude in antique-like robe and was designed by French glass manufacturer Marius-Ernest Sabino. The sculpture is entitled ‘Tanagra’, it is named after an ancient terracotta sculpture that was found in a temple in the Greek place Tanagra. Particularly attractive are the golden light reflections, which appear through the incidence of the direct light.
The sculpture is provided with the engraved signature ‘Sabino’ on the plinth and is overall in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and wear. The height measures 25 cm.
Marius-Ernest Sabino (1878-1961)
Marius-Ernest Sabino was born in Italy. He studied at the L'Ecole National des Arts Decoratifs and the L'Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris. In the 1920s, he experimented with a new formula for opal glass and invented a composition which makes the glass appear cool as ice in low light, in direct light however it creates a golden light reflex.
