3 5/8" Slate Popeyed Birdstone. Lapeer Co, MI. Undrilled. T-4579. Well pictured in Moorehead's 1917 Stone Ornaments (p263). The (Smithsonian's) cast of this Birdstone is well pictured in the Birdstone Book (p461-C). Earl later acquired the original piece and featured it in Who's Who #9 (p356) - noting it had the "longest popeyes ever seen". Ex-H,C, Moore, C.A. Thompson. Found by Bert Purdy. Photo of Earl holding this Birdstone can be seen in The Art Gerber Story (p390). One of Earl's favorite Birds. Featured on the front cover of the auction catalog
