The present portrait of a lady dates from the 19th century and was probably painted in Austria. The painting features a young noble woman with precious garments and jewelry. Not only the fine brushstroke enhances the painting with a fascinating presence, but also the gaze of the sitter is of an expressive power, which oscillates between seriousness and self-assurance.

The oval painting is mounted in a colored and partly gilt wooden frame and is optically in good condition with minor wear. Inspection under UV light reveals some major areas of retouching to the face and the neck of the sitter. The reverse shows a patch in the area of the neck (retouched in the painting). The canvas is partly thinned. The overall dimensions, including the frame, are 66 x 55 cm. The stretcher measures 59 x 48.5 cm.
