The photograph shows Ed White floating in space as the first US-American astronaut

The NASA-photograph shows the former Air Force officer Ed White tethered to the Gemini VI spacecraft during his EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity). He was the first American, who moved outside a spaceship on June 3, 1965. The photograph was taken by the fellow astronaut James McDivitt. Photographs of the astronaut White are very are, because he passed away already in 1967 together with the astronauts Gus Grisson and Roger Chaffee during a pre-launch test of the first manned Apollo mission.



The photograph is verso inscribed in pencil ‘+3 m’, ‘?-5t’ and ‘GEMINI 4’. In sidelight some minimal unevenness on the surface is visible. The photograph is besides that in very good condition. The depiction measures 19.2 x 20.3 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 20.5 x 25.4 cm. (tm)
