On March 5, 1977, a conversation between Joseph Beuys, journalists from Hamburg and academics took place, which was documented by the Achberger publishing house in Hamburg under the title ‘No 1 documente. Abendunterhaltung ‘. This documentation consists of the most interesting parts of the conversation printed in newspaper format with ‘Bild Zeitung’ design, the poster ‘Beuys vor der Überfahrt‘ and the postcard ‘Ich denke sowieso mit dem Knie’. The box was probably wrapped in added announcement of the book ‘Soziale Plastik. Materialien zu Joseph Beuys‘, which was also published by the publishing house Achberger as well and is also added here. Complementing there is a publication list of the publishing house.

This box is signed on the lid in red felt tip pen ‚Joseph Beuys‘, and provided with the blue stamp ‘Free International University’, with which also the contained documentation ‘Abendunterhaltung’ in newspaper format is stamped. The object is mounted into a showcase frame together with two further print works. All pieces are in very good condition. The frame is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The cardboard box measures 21.5 x 16 x 1.7 cm. The framed dimensions are 62 x 72 cm.

Joseph Beuys (1921-1986)

Born in Krefeld in 1921, Joseph Beuys was one of the most important German artists of the second half of the 20th Century. After his military service at the German Air Force and his legendary plane crash in 1944, Beuys began his career as an artist as the master pupil of Ewald Mataré at the Stately Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Early on, the artist received numerous commissions and in 1961 he was called to the Düsseldorf Academy as a professor. Beuys’s works were exhibited at the documenta III in Kassel and the 37th Venice Biennale and were honored with many international awards. In 1979, Beuys met Andy Warhol, who created the famous silkscreen portrait of the artist. In 1986 Beuys died at the age of 64 in his studio in Düsseldorf. His works can be found in many international museums such as the Tate Modern in London, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Museum Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. (fea)
