Large drawing by the German artist, which served as a preparatory work for Vostell’s Cadillac sculpture at Berlin’s Rathenauplatz; comparable works by the artist fetch up to €5,900 on the auction market

This work by the German artist Wolf Vostell was created in 1987 as a sketch for the sculpture ‘2 Beton-Cadillacs in Form der nackten Maja’, which the artist created for the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin. The work – a critique of contemporary capitalism – was very controversial at the time and can still be admired on the central island of the roundabout at Rathenauplatz. The present drawing depicts a quasi-abstract motif in dynamic mixed media, which nonetheless gives a sense of the impressive volume of the installation.

The drawing is inscribed above the depiction ‘«2 Beton-Cadillacs in Form der nackten Maja» für den Skulpturenboulevard 1987 in Berlin’ as well as signed and dated ‘Vostell 87’. It is in very good condition and professionally mounted inside a mat. The surface is minimally toned in places. The narrow wooden frames show minor signs of wear. The sheet measures 70 x 100 cm. The framed dimensions are 88 x 118 cm.
