The female and male nude is a central subject characterizing Tadeusz’s artistic output. His works often reveal vibrant colors accentuating the background or parts of the naked skin of his models. The present drawing is titled ‘Sybille’ and shows a naked women posing with an offensive attitude. This demonstrates a further aspect of his nudes that usually appear in unusual and quite provocative perspectives.
The drawing is signed and dated with pencil lower right ‘Tadeusz 77’. It is in good condition considering its age; the paper is only slightly discolored and shows minimal crease marks along the edges and in the corners. The paper is laid down on a foam board and measures 100.5 x 72.5 cm. The framed overall dimensions are 104.5 x 76.5 cm.
Norbert Tadeusz (1940-2011)
Tadeusz was born in Dortmund. He started his artistic training at the local ‘Werkkunstschule’ in 1960, where he attended the class of Gustav Deppe (1913-1999). He continued his studies under Gerhard Hoehme (1920-1989) and Joseph Fassbender (1903-1974) at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. In the end, Tadeusz graduated as a master student of Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) in 1966. Tadeusz was then offered a teaching position for the academy’s department in Münster, which eventually resulted in a professorship. Besides, he also taught at the Staatliche Akademie der Künste in Karlsruhe as well as at the academies in Berlin and Braunschweig. (cbo)
