Enzo Mari is a prolific Italian furniture and product designer who is also successful in the fields of sculpture and graphic works; works by the artist fetch up to €11.000 on the international auction market

The geometric form plays a central role in the artistic output by Enzo Mari. The present sculpture reveals a cube made of acrylic glass. Inside, it displays another cube which is composed of 16 black dots per side. The artist’s interest in the play with iconic symbols and forms is impressively distilled, here. The cube belongs to a limited edition of 50 copies and was manufactured by ‘Danese Milano’. It is presented on a square base made of white plastic.



The cube is typographically inscribed inside ‘ENZO MARI’. The underside of the base is fitted with a typographic label with indications on the work and the artist’s signature ‘Enzo Mari’. The cube is in good condition with only faint scratch marks and one edge shows a small dent. The base is in good condition with small traces of age and use. The cube measures 10 x 10 x 10 cm and the dimensions of the base are 12 x 20 x 20 cm.



Enzo Mari (b. 1932)

Enzo Mari was born in Novara in 1932. He studied at the Accademia delle Belle Arti and has exhibited his works in numerous single and group exhibitions ever since; including, for instance, the Biennale in Venice and the Triennale in Milan. In the 1960s, Mari started to become also active as a furniture and product designer. His works have been discussed in numerous publications and are included in many contemporary art museums, such as the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Kunstmuseum in Dusseldorf. For some time, Maris is also active in research and works as a lecturer at the Istituto Storia dell'Artein of the University of Parma and at the Polytechnic in Milan. (cbo)
