‘Madame Butterfly’ was created by the US-American artist Richard Prince (b. 1949) in 2006 as special edition for Texte zur Kunst (no. 64). The work is based on a collage, where Prince has painted over an image from a porn magazine with the outlines of a skull and a butterfly. The photograph shows a young woman, who is lying on her back on a stool with spread legs. Prince has turned the image by ninety degrees, and so her body posture appears strangely distort. Prince derives his inspiration from advertisement, pornography and lifestyle magazines.

The edition is verso signed and numbered ‘48/60’. The photograph is in very good condition with minor marginal belmishes. The dimensions of the photograph are 40 x 50.2 cm.
