Thomas Florschuetz is one of the most famous and internationally successful photographers of his generation. He started his artistic career with fragmentary photographs of parts of his own body. In doing so, his hair, fingers, drops of sweat and tendons suddenly received a symbolic character that seemed to lose their physical affiliation. His early works are therefore regarded as autonomous images that stimulate a creative reflection on supposedly familiar things. The present C-prints are composed as a diptych and prove to be typical examples of this fascinating approach of the artist.



The C-prints are laid down on foam boards, which are titled, dated and inscribed with black felt tip on verso ‘Ohne Titel (Parallele). Florschuetz. '90/91. 1/2‘ as well as fitted with hanging instructions. Each stretcher is additionally titled, inscribed, signed and dated with black pen ‘Ohne Titel (Parallele), 2-teilig, Florschuetz '90/91, 1/2‘ as well as fitted with information on the hanging. The works are in very good condition. The sheet size is 105 x 70 cm, respectively. The framed overall dimensions are 106.5 x 71.5 cm.



Thomas Florschuetz (b. 1957)

Thomas Florschuetz, who was born in Zwickau, moved to East Berlin in 1981, where he had his first exhibition in 1983. In the end of the 1980s he gained recognition for his images of body parts. Since 1988 his works have been regularly exhibited all over the world. He later moved to West Berlin, followed by stays in New York and Brazil. In 2000, he was active as an ‘Artist in Residence’ in California. Florschuetz has been honored with numerous prizes and awards. In addition to his body pictures, the artist's oeuvre includes monumental flower pieces, images of fighter jets and architectural photographs. In 2007 he became a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Florschuetz lives and works in Berlin. (cbo)
