Stefanie Schneider's photographs are surreal and shimmering Hollywood dreams of the American myth – seen from the perspective of a European
The present photograph is the work of the German photographer Stefanie Schneider, and is dated 1999. The Lambda color print dates from 2004 and is mounted on Alu-Dibond. Born in Berlin, Schneider has been regarded as a rising star of the photo art in recent art. In her distinctive technique she works with expired Polaroid films that make the photographs appear like faded film-stills. The present photograph seems like a snapshot from an American road movie. The extravagant women wearing shrill-colored wigs are rendered in a flash and diffuse coloring. On the one hand, Schneider's works can be regarded as a tribute to the techniques and aesthetics of the past. On the other hand, they offer an insight into Schneider's present life in California, where the photographs were shot.
The photograph is in good condition with light mounting marks along the edges. It is signed, titled and inscribed on a label of the Lumas Gallery on the reverse, ‘Stefanie Schneider/Untitled/1999/ 2004’ as well as numbered ‘9/150’.The work’s dimensions are 30.7 x 30 cm.
