An excessively rare and important Imperial Eagle jewel, early 18th Century. Early Imperial Eagle Jewel, GOLD and enamels with fi repainted details, set with precious stones on both sides, 58x40 mm. A masterlymade pendant of the fi nest, ancient Russian craftsmanship, minimal signs of age and wear, extremely fi ne condition. Fallowing an ancient tradition also present in western Europe’s Renaissance, earlier than the birth of a “modern” system of Orders and Decorations, the Russian sovereigns were used to give to highest ranking members of Royal Houses and personalities, gifts that could visibly remember their Imperial provenance, such as the eagle here offered for sale. Althoufh Tzar Peter I “The Great” planned to organize Russia’s awards, he still retained his personal right to award speciallymade jewels, usually depicting the sovereign’s portrait of the Imperial Coat of Arm, the tradition of giving jewels and precious gifts, lasted until the end of the tsarist rule. A museumlevel piece of the highest historical importance and rarity, in our opinion for the fi rst time offered at -SKU: 1578
