Burnside Single Shot 1864 Carbine 5th Model. Rifled .54 caliber, 20 in. long barrel, single shot percussion carbine with double hinged load lever, walnut stock and saddle ring on the left side. Marks on the top of the frame “Burnside Patent – Model of 1864” over serial number matching on the frame and block “5994”, marked on the lock “Burnside Rifle Co. - Providence, RI”, faintly marked on the top of the barrel “Cast Steel 1864” and marks on individual parts with inspection letters L, P & R. 5th model bears the single screw on the right-front side of the frame which is not present on earlier models.
