This lot comprises twelve bottles of 1989 vintage Château Léoville-Poyferré from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux.
Saint-Julien is an appellation in MĂ©doc by the Gironde estuary, adjacent to Pauillac. The predominant grape variety here is Cabernet Sauvignon and the wines are powerful, complex and long-lived. The wines from the northern part of the appellation are comparable to those from Pauillac, while in the south the wines tend to be more elegant like those from Margaux.
1989 was, like 1988 and 1990, a great vintage in Bordeaux. The continuously warm weather allowed an early harvest and the wines have a relatively high amount of tannins and alcohol. These wines usually taste wonderful now but may also develop further through proper cellar storage.
The fill levels are excellent (into neck). The labels and capsules are in perfect condition.
