This lot comprises four bottles of 1989 vintage Château Palmer from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux.
Margaux is located in MĂ©doc and is one the finest appellations in France. Ernest Hemingway was so fond of Margaux wine that he named his daughter after it. The most widely used grape variety is Cabernet Sauvignon, which is always blended with other varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The wines are long-lasting and should only be savored after several years of proper storage.
1989 was, like 1988 and 1990, a great vintage in Bordeaux. The continuously warm weather allowed an early harvest and the wines have a relatively high amount of tannins and alcohol. These wines usually taste wonderful now but may also develop further through proper cellar storage. This wine has now reached its peak and tastes significantly better than its classification as Quatrième Cru would suggest.
The 1989 vintage Château Palmer was rated 96 points by Lisa Perotti-Brown for Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate in same year. The wine was rated 92 points by James Suckling in 2010. The wine was rated 20 of 20 points by René Gabriel in 2013.
The fill levels are excellent (1x high fill, 3x into neck). The labels and capsules are in perfect condition.
