This lot comprises three bottles of 1990 vintage Barolo Monfortino Riserva produced by Giacomo Conterno in Piedmont.
The wine-growing region of Barolo in Piedmont produces one of the best Italian premium wines, the Barolo. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape, a variety predestined to produce structured wines with depth that require longer bottle-ageing to reveal their taste. Today’s dry red wine type dates back to the mid-19th century – before that, Barolo was used to make sweet wines. The best Barolo is hard, firm and closed during its youth. This is the foundation of its longevity. It is a growth that is made over time. After some years ageing, a Barolo can very suddenly achieve its optimum ripeness before unfolding its complex, exceptional aroma: delicious sweetness, zest, velvety tannins and elegance. Over the past two decades, two diametrically-opposing Barolo interpretations have crystallized. Some vintners are gradually cultivating wines according to the traditional customs over time. Another group of vintners are producing wines that are softer in their youth and achieve optimum maturity earlier.
1990 was a fantastic vintage in Piedmont, especially for Barolo and Barbaresco, where powerful, complex and long-lasting wines were produced. This wine will already be a true pleasure to drink now, but after a couple of years of proper storage it will be even better!
The fill levels are excellent (< 3 cm). The labels and capsules are in perfect condition.
