This lot comprises six bottles of 1995 vintage Barolo Percristina produced by Domenico Clerico in Piedmont.
The wine-growing region of Barolo in Piedmont produces one of the best Italian premium wines, the Barolo. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape, a variety predestined to produce structured wines with depth that require longer bottle-ageing to reveal their taste. Todayās dry red wine type dates back to the mid-19th century ā before that, Barolo was used to make sweet wines. The best Barolo is hard, firm and closed during its youth. This is the foundation of its longevity. It is a growth that is made over time. After some years ageing, a Barolo can very suddenly achieve its optimum ripeness before unfolding its complex, exceptional aroma: delicious sweetness, zest, velvety tannins and elegance. Over the past two decades, two diametrically-opposing Barolo interpretations have crystallized. Some vintners are gradually cultivating wines according to the traditional customs over time. Another group of vintners are producing wines that are softer in their youth and achieve optimum maturity earlier.
1995 was a fine vintage in Piedmont, leading to the creation of some great wines, the best of which are now at their peak, albeit in small numbers.
The 1995 vintage Barolo Percristina was rated 93 points by James Suckling for Wine Spectator in 2000.
