Female nude reclining on a chair in bright colors; Geiger’ nudes fetch up to €4,000 on the international auction market
In the present work Richard Geiger portrayed a female nude in an lush interior. The Hungarian artist painted many portraits of beautiful women, nude or only lightly dressed and posing in a boudoir. With a confident, flirtatious gaze, this redhead is smiling at the viewer, as if unaware of her nudity. The sensuality of the composition is further enhanced by the contrast between the delicate flesh tones and the materiality of the opulently draped fabrics.
The drawing is signed lower right ‘GEIGER RICHARD’. It is in very good condition. The sheet is mounted under a mat, attached with tape at the top margin. The frame shows some wear. The framed work measures 50.5 x 40.5 cm, the sheet size is 40 x 30 cm.
