Finely painted hunting scene with a group of pheasants on the edge of a forest; Lorenz's paintings fetch up to €7,500 on the auction market

The painting features one of Willi Lorenz’s typical motifs, depicting a group pheasants by a small stream at the edge of a forest. In the background extends a wide autumn landscape bathed in a soft golden light. The harmonious color scheme with nuanced shades of brown is particularly charming. Lorenz is known for his decorative animal paintings and created many works depicts pheasants and other fowl. The popular painter portrayed the local and exotic fauna in atmospheric landscapes, which are characterized by a very fine and detailed manner of painting.



The painting is signed lower left ‘Willi Lorenz’. It is in very good condition. The frame shows light wear. The framed work measures 42 x 52 cm, the artist’s board measures 40.5 x 30.5 cm.



Willi Lorenz (1901-1981)

The German artist Willi Lorenz studied at the Düsseldorf art academy. He specialized in animal and hunting paintings, which brought him international recognition. Willi Lorenz lived and worked in Cologne. (tfa)
