Lovis Corinth (1858-1925)
Lovis Corinth (born Franz Heinrich Louis Corinth) was a German painter, one of the most eminent and influential German Impressionists. His later works are often considered a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. Corinth studied at the Königsberg art academy and was a student of Otto Günther, who taught him the fundamentals of painting. Corinth focused on painting portraits and landscapes. During his productive period he created over thousand paintings, watercolors drawings and prints. In addition he wrote books and essays for several art magazines. Many of Corinth’s works can be found in national and international galleries and museums today, a large part of his oeuvre is privately owned. (fea)
