In the lower margin it is inscribed by another hand in pencil and at the reverse upper edge it is hinged to a mat. Overall the condition is good. The glass sheet of the frame is lacking, the metal frame itself is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The plate measures 33.4 x 29.8 cm, the sheet 53.3 x 43 cm. The framed dimensions are 56 x 47.5 cm.

Marino Marini (1901-1980)

Marini studied from 1917 onwards at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. In 1928, he travelled to Paris, where he spent consistently the following years. There, he met the artists Giorgio de Chirico, Wassily Kandinsky and Aristide Maillol. Later on he met Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, the two founders of the Avant-garde. A popular topic of the Italian artist is the connection between horses and humans. Marini's most famous sculpture – ‘L'angelo della citta’ - depicts a naked man sitting on the horse, in the patio of the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. (fea)
