Typical, abstract color composition by the German artist Günther Förg; his lithographs in colors fetch up to €1,400 at international auctions

The German artist Günther Förg has applied the spot-like color shapes in red-brown, orange and olive green in fidgety line on the lithographic stone and combined with a contrasting ground in likewise fidgety stroke. Thus a composition is created that exudes at the same time harmony and shimmering vitality. This print was published in an edition of 100 + some H.C. copies by Erker Presse in St. Gallen

The lithograph in colors is signed in pencil lower right ‘Förg 94’ and inscribed in pencil lower left ‘H.C.’. The sheet is unobtrusively inscribed lower left presumably by another hand and is overall in good condition. The image measures 76.7 x 57.7 cm, the sheet 78 x 58 cm.

Günther Förg (1952-2013)

Förg studied from 1973 to 1979 under Karl Fred Dahmen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1984 he participated in the exhibition ‘von hier aus – Zwei Monate neue Deutsche Kunst in Düsseldorf’ and was represented at the 1992 documenta IX. Förg taught from 1992 to 1999 at the Academy for Design in Karlsruhe and then became a professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. (fea)
