New England Town, 1955, signed lower right "Helen Farr '55", oil on canvas board, 12 x 16 in.; original wood frame, yellowed varnish otherwise original condition; frame with abrasions. Notes: Helen Farr was the wife of "The Eight" artist, John Sloan. She studied under both Sloan and Boardman Robinson. From 1940 to 1944, she was director of the Society of Independent Artists. A philanthropist, the Delaware Art Museum was a beneficiary of her efforts which in turn, prompted the dedication of the library in her name.. Provenance: Estate of Robert Junior Franklin, Wilmington, Delaware; By descent
