Title: The Mineral Kingdom
Author: Reinhard Brauns (1861 – 1937) Publisher: J. F. Schreiber Printing Year: 1912 Details/Condition: Bound in modern dark tan cloth boards with spine embossing, this very large antique text is a scarce landmark mineralogy title. The work is exhaustive and ambitious in its determination to graphically display the minerals, using many color plates and illustrations. From the preface: "The most important minerals are represented in their natural form, colour and size on 73 chromo-lithographic plates, and in addition there are 14 photographic reproductions, 4 art-plates, and numerous figures in the text. It is not all minerals that are suited for pictorial representation; and in any case the specimens must be carefully selected, so that they will show to advantage any particular mineral without giving too much prominence to the associated materials. For this purpose a collection such as that in the University of Giessen does not suffice, and I have had to rely on the kind support of colleagues and friends. The specimens here portrayed belong to the Museums of the Universities of Bonn, Göttingen, and Marburg, the Natural History Museums of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Hamburg, the Senckenberg Museum at Frankfurt, and that of the Mining Academy at Clausthal." The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with bright pages and library markings. The book measures approximately 11.25" x 8.75" and contains 432 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $12.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
