Description
Bronze and enamel. China, late Qing, approx. 19th cent.
Characterful quadratic vessel with distinct jagged edges and a wide outwardly curved mouth. It is rendered after the archaistic Gu, which – if quadratic in form – is known as Fanggu. The decorative elements are executed in the enamel champlevé technique, and the bridges are partly gilded. The motives include leaves, flowers and abstract Taotie-masks. Dark patina.
