French(?) School, 18th-early 19th century, Portrait of a Cleric Wearing a Hat, after Jan Lievens (Dutch, 1607-1674), oil on canvas, 29" x 23", unsigned and with a plaque attached to the frame referencing "Jean Livens" [sic]. Also with several labels verso, including an old consignment label from an unidentifiable auction house. Relined, old repairs, minor paint loss and inpainting, otherwise good restored condition. In a fine period frame with minor losses measuring 40" x 34". This painting was formerly part of the estate of Mrs. Whitelaw Reid and sold through the American Art Galleries, as indicated by a card on the reverse of the frame.
