CASED BRASS LONG GLASS WITH TRIPOD - Bardou & Co, Paris, Fine Quality Telescope, solid brass, with 2 1/2" objective, 37 1/2" main tube, 17 1/2" adjustable tube, having friction wheel adjustment; also includes 7 3/4" black glass sun viewing tube. In the original pine case, with mahogany tripod having rigid folding legs but adjustable height brass stem, bronze fittings, wooden set screw. 5" x 40 1/2" x 7" case, 62" tall tripod ( at low setting). Very good condition, polished. The long lens tube is engraved in script "Wm. Senter & Co, Portland, Me". Senter (1813-1888) was a silversmith, jeweler & watchmaker, whose shop was at 51 Exchange St. In business from 1869-1888, became Senter & Co in 1875 when joined by his nephew. He was Mayor of Portland 1880-1882.
