RARE BARDOU TELESCOPE ON TRIPOD - Apartment or Touring Size Solid Brass Telescope with Oak Tripod in original finish having bronze fittings and sailor's ropework on the grips. The scope appears as Model 5800 in the Bardou & Fils, Paris catalog of 1911, with suggested use in smaller homes and while traveling. It has a 2 1/4" objective lens, is 28 power, with a 17" throw and 2 1/2" wheel adjustment. It is stamped on the receiver "Ferd. Kreuter, New-York", and engraved in script on the smaller tube by both Bardou and Kreuter. Ferdinand Kreuter was an Optometrist who had an office at 39 W. 43rd St. from about 1898 to 1912. The telescope mounts with screws, as is typical, but has no case. It is 31 1/2" long when closed, has no lens cap. The tripod is 57" tall when folded, the legs are rigid. Very good condition, a few tiny dents to the large tube.
