Speech in the House of Representatives of Hon. Martin B. Madden of Illinois on the Injustice of the African Exclusion Amendment to the Immigration Bill (Washington, D.C., Jan. 11, 1915) 3pp., original wrappers.

Madden, the veteran progressive Republican Congressman from Chicago, an Irish immigrantwho had a leg amputated as a child laborer, (see previous listing) declared that a proposal to "exclude all members of the African or black race" from immigrating to the US - similar to "exclusion" of Chinese and Japanese - would "humiliate 10,000,000 loyal American citizens and place the stamp of inferiority upon them."
