Description
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. This elegantly shaped redware vessel is unusual for its ornament. The deep chocolate brown pigment was not typically used by Chupicuaro artists and this olla features exquisitely abstract glyphs on the body and rim. Such motifs inspired many Art Deco artists who sojourned in Mexico during the last century.Â
