A 5-shot, double-action solid frame revolver chambered for the obsolete .44 calibre bulldog cartridge; hinged loading gate to right with swing-out manual cartridge ejector rod housed through cylinder pin; the frame heavily engraved with foliage and inscribed 'BRITISH BULL DOG' in two lines to top strap with sighting groove; the cylinder with Liege proofmarks to faces, the 50mm barrel rifled with fixed foresight; the bird's-head butt fitted with chequered wood grip scales (retaining screw a replacement); the metal parts with some traces of original nickel plating. 482 grams, 15cm long overall (5 3/4"). No Firearms Certificate is required for this antique revolver; which is essentially a Belgian copy of the well-known Webley 'British Bulldog' revolver; the Bulldog revolvers, although accurate only at close range with their short barrels, were popular everywhere for their reliability and power as well as being considerably cheaper than other types; they were also popular with police forces.
