Description
Cretaceous, 110-125 million years BP. A fossil hadrosaur (Charonosaurus) egg from Xixia basin, Henan Province, China, showing post-burial crushing of the top of the egg, while retaining evidence of its original leathery surface. 2.8 kg, 16cm (6 1/4"). Ex Lincolnshire collection; acquired 1990s-2012. The hadrosaurs are known as the duck-billed dinosaurs due to the similarity of their head to that of modern ducks. In addition to the duck bill, Charonosaurus also had a large head crest.
